Sustainability

The  cottage has undergone an extensive refurbishment programme over the last 2 years and is fully insulated to current regulations.

The new quality double glazing helps retain the warmth inside from the natural South facing sunshine - cutting the time the heating requires to be used.

The advanced electric radiators are ceramic core based allowing the warmth to radiate out even after they have been switched off.  They also cost pennies to run per hour and are WIFI controlled.

The logs / bricks provided for the indoor wood burner are kiln dried.

You will find recycling bins outside the cottage for plastic, paper and card. Glass should be left beside these bins which will be uplifted to the local glass bottle bank.

For over 100 years our cottage had no proper running water. The newly installed water supply has an advanced filtration unit and UV lamp fitted which is tested by The Highland Council regularly.

We have fitted LED lighting throughout.

Our new kitchen appliances were sourced for low carbon impact along with the Eco low flush WC

The electricity supply comes from a 100% renewable energy tarriff.

We are very proud of our carbon footprint after the cottage renovation which now sits at a B rating.

We are currently in talks with the Highland Council to allow us to fit ground solar panels onto our land which would then mean all our electricity would be free - this would then enable our cottage to be classed as an A efficient band for purposes of the EPC rating (currently a D)

An electric charging point will be installed in due course.

We have planted many trees, bushes and plants within our garden to encourage wildlife and enhance our vulnerable ecosystem. We also have grown a small wild meadow which frogs, toads and newts now inhabit.
