Water Sports

There are bays, lochs and seas around for canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. We would highly recommending booking these as a guided activity as the Scottish weather/currents can be unpredictable.

Golfing

There are nine hole golf courses in both Lochcarron and Gairloch.

Fishing

The rocks around the bay are ideal for sea fishing or you can book a local fishing guide.

Food & Drink

Dining In/Out

Despite the remote setting, the cottage benefits from a number of local cafe's and restaurants only a short drive away: including the Coastal Kitchen and Nanny's Coffee Bar in Shieldaig. The Walled Garden and Applecross Inn, in Applecross. The Bo and Muc and the 1887 fine dining restaurant which can be found at Torridon House Hotel - also famous for it's Whisky Bar, which will thrill the whisky connoisseur with 365 single malts on offer.

You will also find a fish and chip van in Applecross.

Local Produce

Applecross Smokehouse for local smoked sea foods, pâté and cheeses. Loopy's fish van passes the road end on a Tuesday and Kenneth Morrison, the mobile butcher will pass by on a Wednesday.

Shops

You can top up on supplies from Sheildaig grocers (10 min drive) or Costcutters in Loch Carron (40 mins) if needed. Tesco in Dingwall also deliver direct to the cottage door.

Wildlife

The Applecross Estate has identified that we sit amongst a rare but vulnerable ecosystem where you can spy the otters, seals and dolphins at play from our garden.

The pine martin is a frequent visitor to our home alongside the cuckoo, woodpecker and occasional badger who forage in the fairy dells here for their dinner.

If you are particularly lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the white tailed eagles that nest on Shieldaig Island.
